During sixth period today, a fire alarm sounded. Principal Wynne Satterwhite shortly cancelled the alarm and evacuation over the school intercom. The alarm was triggered by fires that took place during sixth period: one was in the 300 wing boys bathroom and the other was in the 700 wing boys bathroom. A plastic trash can was on fire in each bathroom, in addition to a toilet paper dispenser in the 300 wing boys bathroom.

An arson investigator and a fire origin and cause investigator from the Santa Clara County Fire Department responded to the incident.

“At 1:27 p.m., the Santa Clara County Fire Department received a report of a fire alarm sounding at 201 Almond Avenue,” Santa Clara County Fire Department Fire Captain Chris Ingram said. “At 1:28 p.m., we arrived at scene and found a trash can that was extinguished, in two bathrooms—trash cans that were previously on fire but were extinguished on our arrival.”

The identity of those responsible for starting and extinguishing the fires is unknown at this time. The Santa Clara County Fire Department and the Los Altos Police Department are collaborating to investigate this incident. Los Altos administration is also investigating the fires.
